About us

by Drummond Road on 27 November 2009 · 1 comment

Primarily for the benefit of the residents of Drummond Road, though also very much for its’ day-to-day users passing through, the sole purpose of this web site is to address both environmental factors that need improving and anti-social behaviour issues that, combined, impact negatively upon the general quality of life here.

It is intended that this web site will prove to be an effective agent in helping to catalyse and mobilise all parties with vested interests to work closely together with a re-energised commitment and focus in place of what seems at times just to be inertia, apathy and an unhealthy culture of tolerance whilst the whole community here suffers.

Although the ingredients of positive change exist on the agendas of multiple agencies, stakeholders and community activists alike, there has been little to no apparent progression for some considerable time and conditions here are subsequently deeply attritional and destructive to family and social well-being. There is now a negative social intensity here that really does need immediate respite.

It is not all about gloom and despondency though. Far from it. Much has already changed here to help the situation since 2003. All of the street lamps were upgraded, the redundant traffic head is now fenced off so no longer abused and our local corner shop benefited from assistance with the cost of an external CCTV installation and help to secure their present role as a PayPoint facility.

All of these things have helped enormously and the Police, to their credit, have sustained an active role in preventing things from getting too out of hand.

However, the failure of sources of funding and practical defeat of any tangible commitment and drive to open up Drummond Road to through traffic has delivered a huge blow to this community that is not to be underestimated since this project alone, had it gone ahead as planned, would have by now much reduced social pressure here.

That said, the perennial problem that is caused directly by the continued activities of the Shady Grove nightclub and the anti-social behaviour of its’ customers all through the night and well into the daytime, too, is by far the biggest issue that this beleaguered and long-suffering community has endured and this is now way out of control by any standards.

This community badly needs help to overcome these difficulties and much of that means that appropriate action simply must happen and fast.

Please join in and add your urgently needed weight and support to both of these key initiatives by contributing to this web site’s content creatively and encouragingly so that those in a position to bring about these changes will sit up and take notice.

It is essential that as many residents as possible make their voices heard by those who can help. We must help ourselves in a positive, meaningful and constructive way. Together, we can achieve far more than if we continue to do nothing. This web site can represent our collective will and become a powerful instrument of transforming this community’s whole quality of life.

We all need each other to beat these odds in a timely manner or the social cost will continue to add up to one heck of of lot more unnecessary suffering.

So, what are you waiting for? Join in and make it truly count.

Hi There,

My name is Diane and I work for St Pauls Neighbourhood Management. I wanted to let you know that St Pauls Unlimited will be leading a consultation in the coming weeks regarding the re-opening of the two junctions on Drummond Road as well as the junction of Brighton and Argyle. I understand the organisers of this website, and the users of the website are very keen to see somethiing happen with these junctiions and I want to make sure your opinions are captured and presented to the project steering group. I’m not exactly sure who organises this website, but when you pick this email up if you’d like to give me a call I would be happy to give you some further details on the consultation and how to get involved. We are going to start surveying a small percentage of residents towards the end of next week and the plan to wrap up the full consultation by the end of November. You can reach me on 0117 903 9932 so please feel free to give me a call for further information. Additionally, when we prepare the material we’ll use to announce the consultation events I’d be happy to provide you with a copy if you would also like to post that on your site!

Kind Regards,
Diane
